So we’ve seen how great Cisco Meraki’s wireless cloud MR series access points behave. Now your thinking…I wonder how great the Meraki MX64W or MX64 UTM or cloud firewall compares to its competitors such as Fortinet and Sonic Wall and other large players in the UTM/firewall space. Let me start off by saying this. In 2014 to 2016 we were a vendor neutral company that use to sell a combination of Cisco, Netgear, Dlink, Fortinet, Sonicwall, Pf, Watchguard and many others. After the high demand of the Meraki products such as the MX64 , MX100 and other MX series firewalls we’ve gone 100% Cisco Meraki. It’s not to say that the other firewall vendors in Toronto or Canada don’t compare or can’t compete with Cisco Meraki but the ease of use towards this small security appliance is AMAZING! Whether our own company configures the MX64/MX64W firewall or one of our sub-contractors or even our own non-technical customers it’s such a breeze and easy experience. This is greatly due to Cisco Meraki’s best in class support. If anyone knows how important support is during a go-live, cutover, implementation or other than there’s no doubt that working with Cisco Meraki is probably the best out there. I’m sorry if other vendors are reading this but whenever we contact Cisco Meraki for a support call, we don’t geta level 1 junior technician or support representative on the phone. We get always, always, ALWAYS get a user who has advanced technical knowledge to go as far as performing wireshark capture debugs on the fly. Its honestly amazing how much knowledge these support tech’s know. Kudos to Cisco Meraki for interviewing and hiring the best of breed employees! I’m not basing my experience on 100 some odd calls but more like 3000 plus calls between my staff and I.
As most of you other tech’s, engineers, field engineers know that the majority of our cutover work, upgrades and more happen in the oddest times on the night. Don’t be afraid to schedule a cutover on a Sunday at 2am as even if you contact Cisco, you’ll get a high level engineer to assist with any questions you have. They might not be located in North America when you call them at 2am but wherever they’re still top-notch experts that will resolve your technical issue.
One other reason why we decided to go 100% Cisco Meraki is because when you start working with the full stack of their products it makes troubleshooting much easier. You get to see the full topology, there’s no finger pointing between vendors and the ease of use and the ease of support to quickly isolate issues is much easier. Since the Cisco engineer will have full dashboard access, he can see exactly what the end user is doing or what has happened.
Enough about me going on about how great their products are and let’s get into some other key features and points about the Cisco Meraki MX64 (price, review, configuration and more).
The Cisco Meraki MX64 Price
Let’s start off by seeing what other vendors are selling the Meraki MX64 / MX64W price for. For now, I’ll just stick with the MX64 as the main difference between the MX64 and MX64W is that the W stands for wireless. 80% of our customers have the Cisco Meraki MR series access point or points in their warehouse or office so the need to pay for the extra money for the W is not needed.
So here are some snippets of the Meraki MX64 price from vendors that you may recognize.
Comparing the price to our price we can land the Cisco Meraki MX64 in Canada for $419.95
This ships directly from our office in Toronto, Canada. That’s dependant if the unit is in stock. If the unit isn’t in stock in our Toronto office you’ll have it shipped directly from Cisco in the USA. No worries no extra duties or handling will be charge to you. So those are the prices from other competitors of ours and you can see how different the prices are. Pricing varies depending on the month your purchasing, if its Cisco’s year end and more. Obviously if its closer to quarter end or year end, every public company wants to make more and more prior to the quarter end, especially year end. So at this time discounts may apply greater than normal. Other discount can come if you’re in the health sector or non for profit or education.
The MSRP for the Cisco MX64 can be found here from Cisco Meraki’s direct page and these are not numbers from their Canadian site as they only have one standard price which is in USd funds. https://meraki.cisco.com/buy/cost-calculator#appliances
Meraki License Cost
The Meraki mx64 license cost varies on MSP or IT contractor or company. For managed services we’ve seen pricing range from $2300 per year and sometimes $300 per month but of course this includes managed services. The just the license alone Cisco Meraki has it at $1800usd for a 5 year advanced security price. For standard 5 year license which doesn’t include all the features the price is $900 MSRP but for managed services we’ve seen this quoted at around $200-$250 per month.
